Introduction to Data Journalism workshop

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SJMC) of AUTh is joining forces with iMEdD (incubator for Media Education and Development) to host a two-day workshop titled Introduction to Data Journalism on 15 and 16 of February. This workshop is part of a series of SJMC capacity building programs launched for the 2022-2023 academic year, aiming to enhance students skills and competence in digital media, communication and journalism.

Workshop description:
Utilizing the knowledge and resources of the iMEdD Lab, the Organization’s pillar specializing in data journalism, attendees will get hands-on experience with data processing, analysis, and visualization without needing to know how to code. What is (open) data? How do we access it and how can journalists use it in investigative research? These are some of the questions that the workshop aims to address.To attend the workshop, participants should bring their own laptops and have a Google account. The event is open only to the SJMC MAgraduates and students after invitation.

11:00 – 14:00 Introduction to Python/Pandas library for data processing/analysis
14:00 – 16:00 Break
16:00 – 19:00 Homework on the spot – Participants work on specific exercises from the physical workshop space, with our own support
